Visual Novel: Steins;Gate 0

So the main reason that I chose to read this is so I could finish reading it before the English translation comes out in a few days (and also because I like the franchise). Also possible spoilers for people who don’t know what happens in the original Steins;Gate (not that anyone hasn’t seen Steins;Gate anyway but just in case).

The story starts off directly after Okabe fails to save Kurisu the first time by him being the one to kill her instead. He doesn’t handle that failure well at all and realises that it is hopeless to try and prevent her death. So much to the dismay of Suzuha, he seals away his Hououin Kyouma persona and tries to live as much a normal life as possible in the β Worldline where Mayuri is still alive.

Anyway, first thing that happens is Okabe ends up meeting 2 of Kurisu’s teammembers from the lab she worked at in America. After hearing that Okabe was a friend of Kurisu they invite him to join a beta test of their Amadeus program, an AI made by implanting Kurisu’s memories into a program that emulates the brain.

I hope that that is enough to convince people to read it from premise alone. In any case, Steins;Gate 0 is a really well planned out story that expands on information from the original Steins;Gate as well as answering many unanswered questions (technically its more confirming the correct answer but its basically the same thing). I really can’t imagine any fan of Steins;Gate not enjoying this just as much, if not more that the original. I personally think Steins;Gate 0 is overall much more enjoyable and just better in general. Although obviously its only as good as it is because of the original.

Overall Impressions:

Really enjoyable story, it was impressive how well the 2 different branches the plot had fit together. The plot is interesting and very well thought out. Every ending was great by showing more of the overall picture. It was fun piecing together everything in my head, especially with new twists with kept on happening. Overall a perfect addition as a sequel to the original Steins;Gate.

I didn’t really end up writing that much in this post. But basically, highly recommended to anyone who likes the original Steins;Gate and I hope the translation is good for everyone who will be reading that so they can enjoy it as much as I did. Also I’m really interested to see how they are going to adapt this for anime so I’m looking forward to that too.
